A family from Gombe village in Bondo, Siaya County, is in mourning due to the death of their 10-year-old son who was mauled to death by their neighbour’s dogs yesterday.
It is reported that the minor met his death when 12 dogs from their neighborhood which had been roaming freely attacked him.
Area Assistant Chief Benard Nyerere confirmed the incident adding that the boy was in the company of a neighbour’s son when the incident occurred.
It is alleged that the neighbour’s son is responsible for freeing their dogs to roam in the neighborhood.
He however, could not be able to do anything to save his friend when the dogs pounced on him, according to area assistant chief.
Mr. Benard Nyerere added that the boy was devoured by the dogs as his friend watched helplessly.
The boy’s parents came to the realisation that something was wrong when they saw that their son’s friend had returned to their home while their own son was out of sight.
His mother got worried and went to look for him only to find his mauled remains lying beside a stream.
She called the area assistant chief, Mr. Nyerere, who contacted local police.
The police soon arrived at the scene and moved the boy’s body to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident began.
The Assistant Chief proceeded to advise residents rearing dogs to ensure that they dogs are properly locked to avoid similar incidents in future.
