21 School Going Teens Die After Taking Intoxicated Alcohol
Previously intoxicated alcohol has claimed the lives of many innocent young, middle-aged and old people across the world.
Last month 21 teens reportedly died after taking alcohol in the republic of South Africa.
The 21 teenagers who died in a South African tavern, several tests indicate that their blood contained highly toxic chemical called methanol.
Methanol is a toxic form of alcohol that is used industrially as a solvent, pesticide or an alternative source of fuel and once consumed can cause blindness when in low concentration and instantaneous death when in high concentration.
The toxic chemical methanol has been identified as a possible cause of the deaths of 21 teenagers at a bar in the South African city of East London last month.
Methanol was found in all of their bodies and investigations are continuing to determine whether the levels of the toxic chemical were enough to have killed them.
“Methanol has been detected in all the 21 individuals that were there, however there is still progressive analysis of the quantitative levels of methanol and whether it could have been the final cause of death,” Dr. Litha Matiwane, Eastern Cape provincial deputy director for clinical service, said at press conference in East London Tuesday.
Authorities are still awaiting the conclusive results which are being conducted at a laboratory in the city of Cape Town, he said.
Before they met their death, the teenagers were reportedly “gathered in a place that, at first glance, should be off-limits to children under the age of 18,” he said.
Agewise, most of the victims were as young as 13 and report indicates that the teenagers were found dead inside a popular bar in the southern city of East London while some died later in the hospital.
The bodies showed no visible injury, sparking speculation among local officials and politicians that it was a case of underage alcoholism that tragically went wrong.
According to the regional police spokesman, Thembinkosi Kinana, special investigators, Pretoria reached on the scene to carry out thorough investigation.
