Students To be Put on Probation After They Were Arrested for Smoking Bhang
A group of 32 students boys and girls put together were caught smoking bhang at a birthday party in Naivasha. They were arrested and will be detained at the Department of Probation and Education for six months.
The 32 students are to serve the probation period while undergoing counselling.
Nancy Mutai, Naivasha sub-county education officer, said that they are working closely with the department of probation in monitoring the students.
They 32 students were from different schools, including polytechnic. Cases of students caught abusing drugs have become common and parents have been urged to be vigilant and monitor their children’s activities.
Sub county education officer said the students would face disciplinary action after the board of management from their various schools have met to deliberate on the issue later this week.
Majority of the students are from day schools, which makes it hard to monitor their activities, however, counseling sessions for the Learners have begun said Nancy Mutai. Fortunately, none of the students was sexually abused, she added.
