VC Akama Exits Service. After 10 years in command of the institution, John Akama, the first Vice Chancellor of Kisii University, has resigned from his position.
On Friday afternoon, the geography professor said goodbye to the faculty and students before departing with pride from the university.
The tenure of Prof. John Akama (VC Akama), the university’s founder, has ended, the management of the institution said on Friday. Akama gave Prof. Joseph Mailutha, the acting vice chancellor, the keys to the kingdom.
The management of Kisii University congratured the founder of the institutions professor Akama for steering the institution all these years and exiting good leadership and management qualities.
Prof Akama, the first VC of Kisii University served as the principal of Kisii high before being appointed the VC of Kisii University College.
The institution was chartered in 2013 under professor Akama’s leadership to become a full-fledged university.
Education Background Of VC Akama
Professor Akama pursued his undergraduate degree in education at the University of Nairobi.
He later proceeded to the USA where he undertook his Masters Ohio State University and PhD studies at Southern Illinois University.
He came back to Kenya, joined Moi University as a lecturer and rose to the rank of professor.
To serve as a university VC, one must be holders of earned PhDs and are serving either as professors or associate professors for a minimum of ten years of demonstrable leadership in an academic and/or research institution.
