Speaking at Muringet in Kepkelion ward on June 28 while commissioning ECDE classrooms in area schools, Dr. Mutai said that his government is committed to improve the wages of the county’s 1,115 ECDE teachers.
“All our teachers will be under permanent and pensionable terms by August. In this initiative, ECDE teachers with certificate qualifications will take home Ksh25,000 while those with Diploma and Degree will earn Ksh35,000 and Ksh44,000 respectively. Also, our ward supervisor will pocket a sum of Ksh60,000 per month,” he said.
At the same time, the governor said that plans are underway to introduce a school feeding programme for ECDE learners in a bid to boost enrolment and retention of learners in school.
“We want to feed our kids in school, and as a result I have given out a tender to build a miller at Kipkelion Ketawa from where we will get high quality flour of higher which will be used to make porridge for our ECDE pupils across Kericho county,” he said.
Dr. Mutai also donated 7 million textbooks for ECDE learners across the county.
