Another dormitory gutted down by fire in Nyanza region, Kisii County. The area County Director of Education Philip Chirchir has called upon the school Principals and the teaching fraternity to be extra keen and vigilant at all times amid rising cases of fire incidences in the area.
The County Director of Education has noted that the cases are in the rise in the region. A dormitory at St. Mary’s Nyangoge Secondary School was razed to ashes yesterday.
The incident was confirmed by Mr. Chirchir. He however noted that the cost of the damages caused by fire could not be estimated at that time because the entire school community including the teachers and learners were still in shock from the incident.
Kisii CDE thanked the county Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairperson Mrs. Joyce Orioki and Catholic Schools Secretary Christopher Osinde, who were among the first people to visit the school to console the girls who spent the night in the cold.
Well wishers and other individuals who arrived at the scene consoled the girls and donated mattresses, blankets and other personal items for the affected students to enable them to continue with their studies.
Mrs. Teresa Gesare the school principal thanked her colleague principals who visited their school following the incident for the gesture and assured parents of their children’s safety.
The school Principal thanked God because none of the girls was hurt although they lost everything to the fire.
Mrs. Gesare appealed to other well-wishers to visit the school and provide the girls with psychological, material and spiritual support.
Another dormitory gutted down by fire. The fire incident comes weeks after Riokindo Girls’ School lost one dormitory to a mysterious fire.
Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kesses confirmed the incident and said that his officers had started investigations to establish the cause of the fire.
