More Learners to join University after Gov’t announce placement changes
In a move to enhance access to quality university education the government through the ministry of education has approved the introduction and accreditation of BridgingBridging Courses.
The new changes will allow more Learners to join University and pursue their dream careers. Those Learners who not attain the minimum entry grade to the university will have a second chance to re-sit the exams they failed before they can join the institutions of higher learning.
The bridging of courses will help more Learners to realize their dreams by opening the doors for them to access quality university education.
In a meeting held at State House on this week, it was settled that the Ministry of Education will develop guidelines to support the implementation of the courses.
Bridging Courses for university admission used to be in place before it was stopped by the Commission for University Education when it was discovered that the system was being abused.
Some universities and middle-level colleges had introduced Bridging Courses to tap into this market in order to increase their revenue collection.
Bridging course is a short course that is designed to help high school Learners to re-sit the subjects they failed in their national exams.
In another move to enhance access to quality education, the government has also reduced the minimum requirements required to join any teacher training colleges.
Any Learner who scores a C Plain in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education will qualify to join teacher training colleges without additional subject requirements.
The government revised the entry criteria or requirements to teacher training colleges as part of implementation of the reformsreforms taking place across the education sector.
Admission criteria to admit Learners to Teacher training colleges were changed in 2021 after the government scrapped off certification in primary teacher education. This led to introduction of new requirements which include attaining a C Plain in Mathematics, English, one science, one humanity and in Kiswahili.
