4000 job vacancies advertised by KFS
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) recently announced that they are currently in the process of conducting interviews for 4,000 Kenyan individuals who are candidates for the Green Army jobs ProgramProgram.
This initiative is aligned with President William Ruto’s ambitious goal to achieve a 30% forest cover by 2023.
As part of this effort, the selected group of young Kenyan citizens will be responsible for planting a remarkable 15 billion tree seedlings over the span of a decade, equivalent to an annual target of 1.5 billion seedlings to be planted and cared for by the Green Army.
KFS has already received applications, and interviews for program participants are scheduled for the coming weeks. Once enlisted, these individuals will work as dedicated nursery workers under the Ministry of Environment.
Their main duties will include raising tree seedlings, engaging in tree planting activities, and participating in various forestry operations within forests.
To ensure the survival of the seedlings planted by the Green Army, KFS has implemented a comprehensive set of measures, including monitoring, careful watering practices, pest protection, and community involvement to foster stewardship.
They’ve also introduced the Jaza Miti mobile application to track and monitor the trees planted across the country.

President William Ruto introduced the ambitious 15-billion tree program in December 2022, with goals to combat greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and restore 5.1 million hectares of degraded landscapes.
KFS currently has a significant supply of 42.4 million seedlings in nurseries, with 22 million ready for planting during the current rainy season. The Green Army’s initial task is to plant over 21 million of these seedlings in various regions of the country.
