Turkana’s early education will benefit from Save the Children’s donation of materials.
Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) facilities in Turkana saw a huge increase in their educational resources as a result of a contribution from the renowned charity Save the Children.
In the presence of County ECD administrator Alice Akiru, Ezekiel Kulal, Director of ECDE in Turkana County, accepted the donation on behalf of the County Government.
300 Early Childhood Development (ECD) learning kits, 135 play mats, 300 learning charts, and other educational supplies were included in the donation consignment.
The educational experience of our young students at the ECDE centers will be considerably enhanced by these resources, which will give them access to a wide range of materials to improve their learning journey. Director Kulal said.
Director Kulal emphasized the long-standing relationship between Save the Children and the county’s ECDE sector and said that the funds would soon be given to eligible ECD centers around the County.
The grants show the organizations’ dedication to advancing the standard of learning at the ECD level of education in Turkana as they come shortly after the County successfully held the 5th National ECDE conference with assistance from Save the Children and other partners.
The 5th National ECD Stakeholders’ Conference took place at Turkana University College in Lodwar, Turkana county on July 17 and 18, 2023.
Over 500 ECD practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders from 31 states and 10 other countries attended the three-day conference.
Nigeria, Zambia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Tanzania, the Gambia, Mauritius, and the Cayman Islands are among the nations that sent representatives to the conference.
The National ECD Conference was conducted in Turkana County, according to Education Chief Officer Korea Etelej, since they are executing the majority of the themes, including feeding programs, with a catchment of 138,277 children in ECDEs and the existence of 1,026 ECDE facilities.
Abdalla Sheriff, Program Manager of Save the Children, along with Emulu Moses, Humanitarian Manager, and White House Ngilimo, Program Support Officer, officially delivered the donations to Director Kulal.
The conference emphasized the critical part that data and research play in forming policy decisions and turning them into actionable steps. Discussions were lively as participants explored the most recent research and techniques for promoting positive development in infancy.
The presentation of the IFNuS Project, which aims to increase food and nutrition security in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid territories, was one of the conference’s highlights. The project highlighted its cutting-edge initiatives, like the “ECD Vege-Lunch” program, which instructs ECD kids on how to grow vegetables in their school gardens.
