Tragic moment for 5 KCPE candidates
It was meant to be a fun day out for candidates expected to begin their exams on Monday. However, the event turned tragic for 5 KCPE candidates from Arap Moi Primary School in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu county, after the boat they were sailing in capsized.
According to a report from police officers, the 5 were part of a group of grade 6 and class 8 candidates (pupils) who were taken out by their teachers to a hotel for recreational activities.
The report said that upon arriving at the hotel for recreational activities today at around 5pm, some pupils boarded a boat whose path was a manmade dam and the boat capsized.

All the 5 class 8 candidates who were on board drowned, and one grade 6 pupil survived and was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment. The pupil suffered from acute low levels of oxygen.
On a different story, a third year male student from Eldoret University who was involved in an altercation with a colleague in a suspected love triangle succumbed to injuries he sustained during the confrontation.
The student identified as Chris Nyaribo succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the confrontation today at nine thirty according to a police report.
The deceased who was 23-year-old student is said to have been assaulted within the premises of University of Eldoret and the attacker is yet to be identified.
The assault was reported at Ainabtich Police Station registered under Ob No. 41 of 26/10/2023.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that the deceased, who was with an unknown fellow female student, was confronted and assaulted and was taken to the university dispensary for medical attention.
He was later referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment, but he died while receiving treatment.
The body is being preserved at MTRH awaiting a postmortem as investigations continue.
