EACC reveals schools leading in bribes for form 1 admission
Some schools have been associated with taking of bribes from parents whenever there is admission of form one students. This behaviour has never been reported to the authorities in the past.
This year however, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of Kenya (EACC) has urged parents to report any high school principals soliciting money for admission letters in schools.
The spokesperson for EACC, Eric Ngumbi, has revealed that the commission has received complaints from some parents over corrupt principals at some prestigious schools to get admisison.
The spokesperson revealed that the commission have received reports of principals demanding bribes ranging from ten thousand to one hundred and fifty thousand shillings for admission vacancies depending on the school’s reputation and the level of greed exhibited by the school principal. He further revealed that girls school’s are leading such cases.
Ngumbi condemned the actions, describing them as unethical and unjust, especially for parents who are already pressed hard by the financial burden of their children’s education.
