Members of Parliament (MPs) are set to help in offering a permanent solution for Kenyan teachers’ perennial challenges.
TSC has been accused of dictatorial tendencies in line with its mandate of carrying out teacher recruitment, welfare and professional development when formulating and implementing policies.
Honourable Omboko Milemba has presented a petition to the members of parliament who have demonstrated their support for teachers against the compulsive action by the Teachers Service Commission to compel teachers to go back to class.
TSC released a circular ordering all teachers in public schools to undergo teacher professional development courses every six months, a programme set to be offered in four TSC preferred universities.
However, members of parliament based on the petition presented to Parliament have strongly argued that teachers are human beings and like other civil servants they should not be subjected to such stress.
According to their arguments, the commission’s contravenes labour practice which protects employees from being forced to undertake refresher courses without proper structure.
Further, the PMs have noted that how the four universities were chosen was not clear and hence termed the process suspicious.
On the other hand, MPs called upon the teacher service commission to pay the charges on behave of teachers because teachers have committed their earnings.
The Teacher Service Commission has been accused by stakeholders of ignoring the voices of the teachers as their employer.
Teachers are now living in regrets. The commission they pushed to be enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya as an independent entity has now turned against them instead of serving them.
The newly formed Kenyan Teachers National Pressure Group accused TSC CEO Nancy Macharia and teachers unions on Monday of conspiring to oppress teachers.
People Daily reported that the pressure group accuses TSC leadership of arrogance towards teachers. The pressure reported they are not happy with the way teachers are treated and ignored at the same time.
Teachers are silently praying for God’s intervention, their only hope.
