KNUT Officials alongside workers in the following branches to lose their jobs
Following a new scheme by Kenya national union of teachers to close sixty-three of its branches, the KNUT officials managing the branches alongside other workers running the operations of those branches are likely to lose their jobs.
KNUT currently is having one hundred and ten offices countrywide with each branch having hardly one thousand members.
Plans are underway to close 63 branches in a proposal that is steered by the secretary-general for KNUT Mr Oyuu Collins.
If the proposal pushes through the once giant union for teachers will remain with only forty-seven offices in the entire country. This means that in every county there will be one KNUT office based at the headquarters of the county.
However, some branches will not be affected even if the proposal pushes through. The branches are the Taita Taveta branch, Nairobi branch, Trans nzoia branch, Nakuru branch, Laikipia branch, Turkana branch, Samburu branch and Nyeri branch.
Oyuu told the Nation that the proposed changes will be pushed through in the NAC delegates meeting that will be conducted at Nyayo stadium.
He also revealed that when his team took over the office, they signed an agreement with the teacher service commission. In the agreement signed it was proposed that the KNUT offices be reduced by 2026 to 47 from the 110 currently.
In his opinion, reducing the number of KNUT offices will enhance the delivery of services to its members.
Unfortunately, if the proposal is adopted in the NAC delegates meeting branch officials together with other individuals working in those branches will lose their jobs.
