KNEC Is Set To Raise National Examinations Registration Fee
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is set to raise KCPE and KCSE registration fees to diversify income amidst the cash crisis.
KNEC is an independent agency in the ministry of education mandated by the constitution of Kenya to administer examinations, marks and provide for the certification.
KNEC has always made sure that standard examinations are ready yearly and learners get credible results once the national examinations are done which allows them to move from one learning level to another.
Yesterday 22nd of December 2021, KNEC launched a strategic plan for the year 2021-2026. The inauguration conference was attended by various education stakeholders including Education CS Professor George Magoha and TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia.
According to the 2021-2026 strategic plan, KNEC is looking to diversify sources of income to curb financial constraints.
KNEC noted that it plans to increase fees for KCSE and KCSE to increase the 44.6 billion shillings they have been receiving initially to 50.1 billion shillings.
Other than increasing examination fees for candidates, the other methods KNEC highlighted to get the cash include selling of past papers, examination reports among others.
Early this month, the council noted that they need more funds to enable them to work on examination malpractices that are usually done at the backside of the camera.
The council further said that there is a need to amend and improve the policies that are in place to incline with the emerging issues as far as examination administering is concerned.
KNEC chairperson, Dr John O. Onsati, while addressing the KNEC stakeholders and other invited officials from TSC and the Ministry of Education said that there should be new ways to supervise national exams.
The nmrwi national examinations (KCSE AND KCPE) are scheduled to be done in March 2022. The examinations are expected to be marked once done and released in late April before the resumption of the first term for the 2022 academic year.
