A School Headmistress has been shit an killed by bandits in Kerio Valley just a few days after students of Tot High school were ambushed while traveling back home from a trip.
The Kerio Valley incident happened last evening after 13 other students and two teachers were severely injured in another attack in the same area last week.
The deceased was a Headmistress at Kipyebo Primary School and at the time served as a catechist at the local Catholic Church.
The deceased was heading home after she hand presented a sermon at the Kipyebo Catholic Church on Sunday.
Bandits last Friday attacked a convoy of school busses which were ferrying students of Tot Secondary school from a trip killing one driver. During the attack twelve students and two teachers were injured and are receiving treatment in hospital.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly condemned the killing of the School Headmistress.
“We are quite saddened by the situation and despite all the promises by CS Fred Matiang’i the attacks are still occurring,” said senator Murkomen.
Leaders in the region including Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago have also condemned the latest killing and urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to address the matter to restore security in the region.
“We are now appealing to the Head of State, who is also the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces to intervene,” said Mandago.
According to Mandago, the the government should act with immediate effect to ensure that the children in the said region are able sit for the examinations in a peaceful environment.
Maalim Mohammed, Rift Valley regional commissioner also noted that all measures were being put in place to make sure security is restored in the region.“We will not show to the public what we are currently working on, but the outcome will be vivid,” said Mohammed.
He noted that the hiding area of the bandits has been identified and man hunt has already started in the areas.
