As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination is entering its second week, the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has expressed satisfaction at the accuracy in the administration of the examinations so far.
In a press released by the Ministry of Education on March 20, CS said the administration of exams being done by 831,015 candidates is progressing well as he refutes claims of massive irregularities.
The CS reiterated that not a single paper has been leaked since the commencement of the exam on March 14, adding that all the papers have been delivered to every exam center with all the unique security features intact. He promised that no remaining papers would be leaked.
He praised the contractual personnel of Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) for the smooth conduct of examinations, adding that they have put aside all their personal and official demands to ensure the safety of KCSE examinations.
CS Magoha, however admitted that even after plugging all the flaws of the leaked exams, some unscrupulous people who had been trying tricks for the last five years changed their strategy to ‘early exposure’, Where they open the exam papers. A few hours before the scheduled time at the exam centers.
Same dishonest people, CS said; Try sneaking mobile phones into containers before distributing them to hired men waiting outside the centres, where they take pictures of some exam papers.
He warned that the education ministry is working with a group of officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to nab the culprits.
Hence the tough talker CS Magoha directed all the center managers and examination officials to ensure strict adherence to the examination guidelines.
The CS further directed that: All school gates be kept open for ease of monitoring, security officers to sit in a position of advantage to be able to secure the second paper, as the morning paper is going on, Supervisors and supervisors should not take any leave. The paper is going on, the center manager does not allow any unauthorized teacher to keep a mobile phone outside the center except one for the manager and the other for the security officer. The phone is to be kept in the center manager’s office for help in case of emergency.
The CS urged the various government departments to ensure all those involved in the conduct of the examinations ensure that they take a credible examination.
