Education CS George Magoha has revealed the list of schools which were most preferred or which were most popular among the 2021 KCPE candidates.
The candidates who took the exam before one month have to start Form One from May 3 in their respective schools.
Nanyuki High School, Kabiyanga High School, and Pangani Girls are among the most preferred secondary schools among others.
He said 1,225,502 candidates appeared for the exam, the results of which were released a fortnight ago, and all of them have been placed in 9,200 public schools in the country.
Announcing the Form One placement results in Nairobi this morning, Prof Magoha said ten schools had received applications ten times their capacity.
“It became clear to us that a large number of candidates did not get proper guidance and direction while selecting the schools. This has resulted in some schools attracting too many applicants against their abilities,” the CS said.
For example, the most selected school in this year’s selection, Nanyuki High School, has a capacity of 480 students but has received 156,003 applications.
One of the top schools in Kericho County, Kabianga High School has a capacity of 528 students but received 149,087 applications.
On the other hand, Pangani Girls High School (one of the top performing girls’ schools in the capital city) has a capacity of 336 students and 118,073 2021 KCPE candidates prefer to enroll.
Maseno School has received 110,811 applications compared to 576.
Nakuru High School received 107,915 applications against a capacity of 336,
Alliance Girls High School received 104,353 applications against 384.
Capsabet Boys received 99,725 applications compared to 384,
Butere Girls High School received 98,410 applications compared to 528,
Mangu High School received 93,648 applications compared to 432, and
Moi Girls High School- Eldoret 92,666 compared to its capacity of only 336 students.
“This scenario can be avoided if relevant guidance is given to the candidates during the selection process by the teachers and parents,” said the CS.
Magoha also praised two schools in the Nyanza region for going above and beyond to increase capacity to support 100 percent transition.
“St. Albert Ulanda Girls and Sironga Girls are going to admit 864 and 816 candidates respectively,” Magoha said.
The Ministry of Education placed 38,797 candidates in national schools across the country, 2,045 in special needs education, 214,960 in extra-county schools, 218, 456 in county schools and 726, 311 in sub-county schools, with another 9. in 128 refugee camps.
