KUCCPS: The Fate Of Over 600, 000 Candidates Remains Unonomous.
Over 600,000 candidates who for the 2021 KCSE examinations failed to apply for courses in higher education institutions.
Today CS Magoha released that 90% Of 2021 KCSE students who scored over C+ were placed in various universities to pursue their preferred courses.
A total of 600,000 placement slots were available for selection across universities, TVET institutions and Teachers training colleges (TTCs).
Speaking during the official release of the 2022/2023 university and college student placement results in Nairobi on Saturday, Magoha noted that 85% of the aforementioned students have been placed in universities to pursue various degree programs while 5% have attended courses in TVET institutions.
“Of the 144,466 applicants who qualified for degree programs, 123,963 (85%) were placed in universities (67,237 male and 56,726 female). 5,278 were placed in TVET institutions by choice,” Magoha said in his report speech.
“I also noted that 16,310 applicants who qualified for graduate programs in the KCSE 2021 exam have not applied and may have chosen to pursue other opportunities, including choosing to study abroad.”
The placement exercise was facilitated by Kenya University Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) through its online portal which allowed students to apply and make changes to previous selections.
Despite the large number of slots which were available in higher education institutions, only 250,052 students have applied for placements and all have been successfully assigned to the aforementioned higher education institutions.
Prof. Magoha revealed that 124,258 candidates, 55,553 male and 68,705 female were placed in TVET’s institutions, while 1,528 were assigned to graduate in Primary Teacher Education and Early Childhood Teacher Education.
“KUCCPS placed 293 (129 male, 164 female) in three colleges offering Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education, namely: Kagumo, Kibabii and Lugari TTC. These students will be trained to deliver the CBC curriculum, ”added Magoha.
Out of about 800,000 candidates who’s sir for KCSE 2021 Examination, the fate of about 600,000 candidates in advancing their career in higher education institutions still remains unknown.
To confirm their placements, Magoha advised applicants to check their accounts on the KUCCPS portal.
The CS also said that starting July 1, 2022, KUCCPS will open its system for KCSE 2022 candidates to submit their desired placement applications.
