Confusion Over CBC As Knut Predicts Crisis Come January 2023
Grade six learners are expected to transit from primary to junior secondary schools come January next year under the CBC system. However, the transition is expected to be shambolic and could totally disrupt the education system.
Knut says there is a possible crisis in schools attributed to lack of proper public participation, failure to engage curriculum experts at inception and hurried deployment of the new system.
Knut first national vice-chairman, Mr. Mutai, said the ongoing program by the government to build 10,000 classrooms is a recipe for chaos considering that more than 30,000 are required and this will lower education standards.
Competency Based Curriculum is good, however, the shortcomings sorrounding it’s implementation will mess the entire education system badly in the coming months or years, said Mr. Mutai.
Some other factors that makes the CBC implementation Shambolic and chaotic includes political prodding, not involving the technocrats and perhaps failure to engage key stakeholders in the entire process as highlighted by the vice chair Knut.
Considering the situation in secondary schools across the country currently the infrastructural facilities are overstretched due to over enrollment. With the double intake come 2023 January, the scenario will be more worse.
Mr Mutai in his honest opinion said that there was an urgent need to re-evaluate the system and find an immediate solution or remedy so as to reinforce confidence among stakeholders and prevent chaos in the education system.
