A School where Boys wear skirts to promote school culture.
A certain school has attracted attention on social media owing to the fact that boys just like girls wear skirts as part of the school uniform.
The Principal of Nyakasura Secondary school explained in an interview that the boys have grown used to the school attire/ uniform and no longer see it as unique.
He said that every student considers the kilt a normal attire. The attire collection includes; a kilt, belt, knee-socks, and a cuff known as a kilt hose. In addition, to the collection boys also wear red leggings or leg warmers.
The school management decision for boys to put on the attire is part of the school’s culture.
The school was established in 1926 by a Scottish missionary Lieutenant who in his quest persuaded the Buganda Kingdom to adopt Scottish culture.
The Buganda kingdom did not accept the idea, however, the missionarywas welcomed in Nyakasura and he opened a school and made the people to practice their culture.
According to the school principal, the attire builds confidence among the boys because of its uniqueness and brings out vibrant leaders.
The uniform is not a skirt as people claim, rather it’s a kilt, a traditional attire worn by men in Scottish Highlands, the principal said.
The Kilt forms a national costume in the British Isles that is worn for ordinary purposes, and not for special occasions. The boys have grown to love their school attire over the time.
The boys attire have small bags at the
front of their kilts, that is used for carrying small essentials items like pens and handkerchiefs.
