The Ministry of Education Releases 2022 Games Calendar
School games are making a comeback after a two-year stop age due to outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic on match 2020.
The games were canceled in March 2020 due to the deadly Covid 19 pandemic in Kenya. The Ministry of Education has now released the 2022 school sports calendar, so the wait is over.
Co-Curricular Activities are an important part of the teaching and learning process in public schools. Learner talents are identified, nurtured, and developed through these planned activities.
In consultation with key stakeholders, the Ministry of Education has now decided that co-curricular activities will be reinstated in all basic learning institutions. Primary and secondary school sports, as well as music, will be activated in term two of 2022. Kenya Science and Engineering Fair and Drama Competitions will take place in 2023.
Schools are therefore advised to begin team training in preparation for the National Championship as well as other regional and international championships. Weekends, midterms, and school holidays are prime times for activities.
This follows a meeting of stakeholders held earlier this year. The decision to resume games was made during a four-day caucus attended by Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) officials and Ministry of Education counterparts.
Term two games (soccer, netball, volleyball, and racquet games, as well as basketball, hockey, handball, rugby, and swimming) will take place from July to September 2022.
The national championship for term two games activities will be held in Kapsabet, Rift Valley Region, from September 8th to September 13th, 2022.
According to the calendar, the subcounties and counties must complete their term one games by June 14, 2022.
