Professor George Magoha, the education cabinet secretary, has provided parents and students in grade six with fresh recommendations for choosing junior secondary institutions.
According to the new rules, parents should choose day schools close to their houses for their children who will be entering junior secondary school, and those who choose private education should choose junior secondary schools that are private.
The (JSS) Junior Secondary School Selection Guidelines include:
Every student will be required to select schools from these five categories:
~2 National schools
~2 Regional schools.
~2 county school
~4 sub county school
~2 private schools of their choice ( list of private junior secondary schools)
According to the the CS Magoha, the portal has been opened by the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) for parents to select schools where their children will be admitted after Grade Six, and the portal will remain active between August 15 and August 30.
Cs Magoha said all Grade Six learners will be offered placement in existing registered public and private secondary schools.
He also said public secondary schools which share a compound with a public primary school will utilize available classrooms as additional learning spaces.
He further said registered private secondary schools will be available for learners whose parents will pay the fees charged by the private institutions.
Note that all primary secondary schools selected for hosting of junior secondary learners are under sub county junior secondary schools.
