County commissioners transferred few days after elections
Erastus Mbui, Nakuru County Commissioner and Uasin Gishu’s counterpart Stephen Kihara, criticized by Kenya Kwanza team during campaign period, have been transferred.
Also, Trans-Nzoia commissioner Samson Ojwang who was accused by President-elect of being behind the plan to intimidate voters and create chaos in the Rift Valley ahead of the election concluded has been transferred.
Ruto’s remarks came against the backdrop of allegations of hate leaflets targeting specific communities in the region.
It is not yet clear why the administrators have been transferred just days after the election.
“They want to disrupt it, realizing that they will not win this election. They want to create conflict and that is why we are calling on government institutions and the international community to talk about this,” said Ruto at a press conference in Karen.
He added that the chiefs and the county commissioners were forced by threats and blackmail to support the azimio team as their operators at the grassroot level.
In a circular that was shown to all the Regional Commissioners on August 23, Ojwang Busia moved towards Mbui Kitui, Kihara, Embu.
“The officer must be released immediately to report to his new station,” the notice of the Ministry of Interior and coordination of the national government said.
Beverley Opwora from Bomet County has been affected as well despite being new in the region and will travel to Makueni to be replaced by Ahmed Omar Ahmed from Busia.
Mathias Rioba, who is currently based in Kitui, will take over the administrative roles in Trans-Nzoia as Eddyson Nyale moves to Uasin Gishu.
Gilbert Kitiyo is the new Nakuru County Commissioner.
