28 Students From Bomet And Kericho Awarded Scholarships
Twenty-eight (28) students from Kericho and Bomet have been awarded degree scholarships by a multinational tea company based in Kericho County.
The company has awarded bright and deserving students from the two mentioned regions scholarships worth Sh. 32 million.
The scholarships will help the beneficiaries to pursue their undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in public and international universities as the academic year commences in September this year.
The 28 students will benefit the support of James Finlay Company Limited to pursue various disciplines in public universities across the Country.
Each student is set to receive a laptop and Sh 150,000 per year, for the entire duration of their study in addition.
The company also awarded two students with the prestigious scholarship support dubbed Swire Masters Scholarship worth Sh 11million to pursue their master’s degree (MA) program in the United Kingdom (UK).
James Finlay (K) Limited Managing Director and Patron of the Trust, Simeon Hutchinson commended the Trust for their milestone achievement during presentation of the scholarships.
“We are extremely proud of the milestones achieved by the Trust in investing education of young people through scholarships and infrastructural projects is key in setting up young people for success”, said Hutchinson.
Two of the 28 students who benefited from the scholarships are set to leave the country next week to UK for their MA studies. The two students earned first class honors in their BA degree courses.
Titus Kiplangat, a former student of Kabianga High School in Kericho County in an interview, he expressed his gratitude to the company having helped him to pursue Bachelor’s Degree in Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering JKUAT University.
The beneficiaries of the scholarships were drawn from five constituencies in Bomet and six constituencies in Kericho Counties after they were subjected to a competitive and transparent interview selection process which was based on academic excellence and student neediness.
