Kalonzo Musyoka dropped out of the National Assembly Speaker race
The party’s Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, withdrew from the National Assembly and Senate contests after receiving nominations yesterday.
Kalonzo yesterday picked the National Assembly and senate speaker nomination papers. Also in the speaker are Amason Kingi, Moses Wetangula, Isaac Mwaura and Hassan Omar.
According to reliable sources, the National Executive Council of the party has said it will disqualify the former vice president to contest the position.
Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party and Kenya Kwanza Alliance plan a parliamentary group on Thursday, September 8 when the 13th parliament opens. After all the members of both houses are sworn in on Thursday, the first order of business will be to elect a Speaker.
Tuesday, September 6, Wiper NEC met at the party headquarters. During the meeting, NEC members unanimously asked Kalonzo to drop his bid for Speakership and instead focus on building his brand.
According to a source at Wiper NEC, NTV Kenya most MPs said Kalonzo would be humiliated if he ran for Speaker.
Many MPs think the numbers does not support Azimio’s coalition party La Umoja One Kenya, because many of their colleagues fled to Kenya Kwanza.
Ford Kenya leader on the other hand spent the better part of yesterday at the IEBC, formalizing his resignation and execution as a senator so that he can contest for the speaker position.
Other three of President William Ruto’s elected allies are interested in speaker position in the Senate. So far, these three have picked nomination papers, Amazon Kingi, former Kilifi governor, Hassan Omar former Mombasa gubernatorial candidate and former Senatorial candidate Isaac Mwaura.
