Egerton University workers have given a seven-day strike notice over alleged salary arrears and management’s failure to comply with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
In a press conference on Saturday, the Kenya University Staff Union said the strike notice will take effect on October 5, 2022 if the issues raised are not resolved.
KUSU General Secretary Charles Mukwana has called on the university to pay 100% of salaries and settle debts in the CBA negotiations.
The strike will affect between 700 and 800 workers.
“The incredible suffering of our members, the severe pain they have to go through to earn a living, the dire working conditions, contrary to the working conditions of the International Labor Organization, which our country is a signatory to,” said Muhwana. .
