Fresh details have surfaced about the party on wheels bus that was involved in an accident yesterday evening at Subuiga region along the Meru-Nanyuki highway. The accident claimed 12 lives on spot.
It is reported that the bus driver lost control and ramped on a matatu before hitting a lorry head on. The party on wheels bus, a customized luxury party bus, had complete sound system, with TV screens, a DJ deck and a dance floor.
Also in the bus was a liquor section and a bathroom. One of the survivors disclosed that they were going to to a bush night party in somewhere in Samburu.
The bus, registration number KAX 998P, was labelled ‘Party on Wheels’ which is the name of the entertainment service which offers the customized buses and vans for ravellers.
Per the company’s Instagram page, the swanky coach also treats passengers to an on-board bathroom.
“We party on the move,” one of the promotional videos for the bus services reads.According to traffic police, Saturday’s accident occurred at around 8.00 PM on Saturday, leaving 11 dead on the spot.
The death toll later rose to 12 on Sunday morning after one passenger succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning while receiving treatment at St Theresa Kiirua hospital.
“The two vehicles (the bus and the matatu) were going down the hill when the bus lost brakes hitting the matatu that verred off to a ditch. Seven people lost from the matatu lost their lives on the spot, while 4 others including the driver of the bus were killed after it also hit lorry” a police officer at the scene said.
Today morning, doctors said that 21 other victims are still admitted at the same facility or hospital as other 2 Survivors had been released.
3 other Survivors had meanwhile been released to recover at home on their own demands.
Other 7 victims who were taken to Life care hospital had been attended to and discharged.
The bodies for the 11 victims who died on the spot were moved to Meru Level IV Hospital mortuary.
