The security personnel attached to a high profile person was shot yesterday in the Uzima area of Kisumu. The personnel died from the attack on spot. The security detail was a bodyguard attached to Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga.
The officer, Barak Onyango, was with a woman and another man when he met his death.
Nyanza regional police chief Karanja Muiruri confirmed the incident but promised to release more details after receiving a full report.
The attacker, said to be the manager of one of Kisumu’s clubs, left after the shooting.
The suspect also shot the female companion on the leg. The injured were admitted to a facility on the shore of the lake.
The victim was shot dead after a scuffle, according to multiple sources, including a junior police officer who spoke on condition on anonymity.
The suspect is believed to have fled with the gun of the officer who was killed.
