Police in Nyamira County have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire at the Riooga secondary School dormitory.
According to the administration, the fire started on Tuesday morning when students were in the classroom for the morning preps.
The Student who was so afraid at the time they saw the fire throwing into the sky began running for safety while shouting,said the security officer.
Panicked students broke the school walls and took shelter in the surrounding villages, he said.
The security guard said that when firefighters arrived at the scene, the dormitory and everything inside had been engulfed in flames and could not be saved.
The Deputy county commissioner of Masaba North was the first to arrive at the school to comfort wit the students and teachers.
Security officials wished for peace at the school and promised safety for students and staff.
We are requesting the people around us to help us while bringing the students back to school because calm has been restored, said the officer.
Keroka Police Commander Robert Ndambiri confirmed that security personnel have been instructed not to interfere with anything as investigation is conducted.
I have instructed my security personnel to go as fast as possible for full results, Ndambiri said.
He said officers have not yet determined the cause of the fire or arrested any suspect.
The principal has not yet estimated the cost of the loss at the time of posting this story.
