A Dormitory in a primary boarding school which hosted nine Pupils and a Teacher was razed down by fire killing one pupil. Other five Pupils were severely injured and have been admitted in two different hospitals where they are receiving treatment.
It is reported that a fire incident at Adu Blossom boarding primary in Katito, Nyakach sub-county broke out at midnight when the teacher and the Learners were a sleep. From the preliminary investigations the fire might have been caused by electric faults.
The pupil was rushed to hospital where his death was confirmed by the hospital CEO. A total of 6 patients, five students and a teacher were taken to the facility.
The CEO said one of the students was transferred from the hospital to Avenue Hospital upon request from parents while another student has been taken to ICU.
Nyakach OCPD Daniel Chacha told the media that the fire broke out in one of the dormitories within the school which had nine pupils and a teacher.
Chacha said the incident occurred at midnight when the pupils and the teachers were asleep.
He said the nine people who were in the dormitory where the fire started sustained serious burns.
“We got the report, responded and rushed to the school, where we broke the door because it was locked from the inside.”
He added that they managed to pull out one of the teachers from the dormitory and the other students who had sustained burns.
“We then rushed them to Nyakach sub-county hospital where they were attended to. But six others with serious burns were referred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral and Teaching Hospital.”
The OCPD, however, stated that three pupils were treated and released back to the school in fair condition.
He noted that the school has a capacity of over 300 pupils but the fire only affected one dormitory stressing that others were all safe.
The OCPD stated that they have already launched an investigation into the matter to know what might have caused the fire.
School manager Benedict Oduk who spoke to the media announced that they have temporarily closed the school to allow investigation into the matter.
