- Reprieve for 2 Schools Whose Dormitories Were Razed Down by Fire Recently
Reprieve to two secondary schools in Kisii region whose dormitories were razed down by fire recently as area MPs initiate a program to provide materials for the Learners.
The dormitories in the 2 schools went up in flames and students lost their belongings in the fire.
At Magena Secondary school, the area MP Obadiah Barongo donated 50 mattresses and blankets to the students whose belongings were reduced to ashes in the dormitory fire.
As he gave out the donations Mr. Obadiah Urged learners to be disciplined and focus on their studies. Discipline Upholds the education standards, he added.
According to Principal, Mr. Joel Mwene, the cause of the fire is yet to be established. However, nine students were arrested to help the police with investigations.
Kenyenya Deputy OCPD Mrs. Everlyne Kurgat confirmed arrest of the suspects.
Mr. Mwene estimated the cost of the damaged dormitory and students’ property at Ksh. 2.8 million.

Dr. Charles Onchoke bonchari constituency member of parliament donated 100 mattresses, cartons of soap and other boarding materials to St. Paul’s Igonga Secondary school to assist students whose personal effects were burnt in a dormitory fire.
The dormitory worth 1.5 million shillings went up in flames during morning hours when students were in class for their morning studies.
Dr. Onchoke told the students that he expected good examination results and not cases of arson.
He urged teachers to remain resilient in the midst of the economic turmoil and continue nurturing the students.
“Your hard work will not go unnoticed by God because He rewards honest work,” he said.
The MP promised to solicit funds from friends and other well-wishers to help in rebuilding the dormitory.
