The Presidential Education Reform Task Force has announced plans to collect input from stakeholders
The 49-member taskforce group, headed by Rafael Munavu, has listed the places and times the party delegation will visit to discuss the controversial competency-based curriculum (CBC) orally or in writing.
“Members of the public are invited to give their views in writing or orally to the Presidential Task Force on Education Reform based on the terms of reference in accordance with Kenya Gazette Notice No. 11920,” he said.
The party said, mass activities in the counties will be held from November 1st to 11, November 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The working party team will visit each other at the same date, time and location to solicit input from various stakeholders.
The development took place after President William Ruto appointed a task force on September 30, 2022 and was inaugurated by deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on October 12, 2022, following concerns and complaints from parents and teachers about the value of the curriculum, among other issues to review the CBC.
The task force has six months to recommend the adoption and implementation of CBC-related structures. The team is expected to submit a progress report to the President every two months.
Some of the tasks include summative evaluation of CBC, study of all the laws governing the department of basic education, recommendations, assessment and evaluation, quality assurance, teacher education and training, and placement of teachers.
