A man aged sixty-five years and his son aged forty years went missing three days ago in embu County. Sadly, today their bodies were found floating at Gitaru Dam in Embu County.
It is reported that Julius Mwaniki and his son Stephen Muriithi, who hailed from Thagana village in Mbeere went missing on Wednesday, only for their bodies to be seen floating in the dam today.
Their bodies were spotted by herders who were grazing their livestock near the dam. They alerted the police who retrieved the bodies and took them to the Embu Referral Hospital mortuary.
The duo are said to have left home on Wednesday morning to trace their missing livestock in the neighbouring Machakos County, but they did not come back in the evening.
It is alleged that they might have drowned after their boat capsized as they were crossing the dam after it was hit by a hippopotamus.
Ms Lumati Inviolata police boss Mbeere South Sub-County said they have launched investigations to determine what really transpired that led to the death of the duo.
Ms Inviolata asked the residents to give any information which can help the detectives uncover the cause of their death.
Embu County residents have raised their concerns following an increase in cases of mysterious deaths.
In the last two months, more than ten people have died in unclear circumstances in the region. Latest being that of a family where 7 people were found dead inside their house in Ngimari village in a suspected arson attack.
