A secondary school teacher, KUPPET Unionists, was attacked and killed by villager over a mistaken identity.
The teacher is reported to have packed his black car along the river Nzoia dykes before he got attacked by locals who assumed he was a thief.
The teacher who has been identified as Mr. Odongo was in company of his colleague during the time of incident. He was teaching at Mwer Secondary school in Rwambra sub location, Busia county.
It was revealed that one of the locals called the area sub chief to inform him of the parked car with hazard lights on at around ten pm. The assistant chief Urged the resident to note the number plate of the car.
The assistant chief called the police to Report the matter before heading to the scene. Unfortunately, he arrived at the scene twenty minutes later only to find the locals had already set the car ablaze.
The teacher sustained injuries and was in a critical state. The police arrived at the crime scene and rushed the victim to Rwanda health center for treatment. The teacher succumbed to the injuries on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.
KUPPET Siaya branch Executive Secretary has urged the police to speed up investigations into the death of unionist Mr. Odongo.
Opondo asked the police to bring to book the culprits who caused the death of Mwer Secondary School teacher. He warned that the union will ensure justice is served to their slain colleague.
Assistant chief revealed that a lot of insecurity cases have been reported in the area. He further expressed regret over the locals’ reacting, stating that an innocent life had been lost due to mistaken identity.
He added that the teacher was known to many people as he had taught in several schools in the area. He called on locals to allow the authorities to operate according to the law after making reports instead of taking the law into their hands.
The deceased’s body has been moved to Port Victoria hospital morgue in Bunyala of Busia county.
