Police in Homa Bay are searching for a clergyman who dragged a 10-year-old girl in a maize plantation defiled and strangled her.
Police investigating the incident said the man escaped after the minor was taken to hospital where she died. The incident took place in Kamwombo village in Kamenya sublocation in Rangwe constituency.
It is reported that a woman who is said to have been with the suspect when the minor was being defiled at her home has been arrested.
From police reports the clergyman accosted and got hold of the minor when she was going to pick a bucket in the house to go to the river to fetch water. He then got hold of the girl, dragged her to the farm and defiled her. Thereafter, He strangled her her with his bare hands.
The clergyman hails from Kisumu county and had paid a visit to the woman for prayers.
The residents later found the girl unconscious in the maize plantation that is when they discovered what had happened. They picked her up and took her to the hospital.
The girl was first rushed to a dispensary for first aid and later transferred to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Medics at the hospital established that the girl was defiled. The police are tracing the location of the suspect.
It has been revealed that the woman is in police custody and she will help the investigation by disclosing the exact home of the suspect who escaped after the incident.
The woman recorded a statement at the DCI office in Homa Bay town on Monday as police begin hunt for the suspect.
