It is saddening to Report an incident where three women were buried alive while two others were injured when the walls of a mine they were digging collapsed on very in the morning today in Nyelnyel area west pokot.
According to Flomena Karotich, Ptokoch Sub-location assistant Chief , the women who were involved in the accident aged between twenty and thirty two years. They had gone to mine for gold on the mine when the walls collapsed and buried them alive.
The Assistant Chief stated that the locals in the area responded quickly to the incident and began rescue operations immediately. According to the reports the operations began at around 3 a.m. and by seven in the morning all the three bodies had been retrieved.
Flomena Karotich however took the opportunity to urge the area residents to look for other business opportunities and quit mining, citing the dangers it poses to human life.
The other two victims who were injured were taken to sigor health facility where they are being treated.
For the other three women who were unlucky their bodies were taken to kapenguria mortuary.
