Basic Education Principal Secretary Kipsang’ Belio announced yesterday that parents will have to take their Grade 1-9 children to day schools.
The government’s move to abolish boarding schools in primary schools from January next year is in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms that junior secondary which will start in January 2023 will be domiciled in primary schools.
The move has been welcomed by kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai saying that some parents have abdicated their parenting responsibility by sending their children to boarding schools.
The junior secondary will accommodate learners from Grades 7-9, meaning parents will take care of their children all through the learning phase.
In his address while in Mombasa, the principal secretary for education said that parenting is a primary duty of parents and cannot be shared with teachers or outsourced.
