New twist on how the fork jembe got lodged on baby Travis head
Baby Travis Maina could have been a victim of domestic squabbles between the father and the mother.
The Kenyatta National Hospital management yesterday told Senate’s Health Committee that Baby Travis’ mother had said that the fork ‘jembe’ had been aimed at her during a domestic fight with her husband.
According to him, the injury sustained by Baby Travis was so severe that it could not have been inflicted by a tender person.
CEO KNH insisted that it was a severe injury that could not have been inflicted by other children while playing.
According to him, Muthoni was economical with the truth regarding the time the injury occurred, adding that she first took her son to a nearby pharmacy, where she was advised to rush him immediately to a more equipped hospital for specialized treatment.
While responding to the Senators’ questions regarding the minor’s death, CEO Kamuri explained that when the child was received at KNH, the doctors could not have immediately rushed him to the theatre because he had lost a lot of blood.
The patient needed to be given blood and to be stabilized before being taken to theater. And being a baby, blood transfusion process is much slower because, if he could have been given more blood at once, there was a risk of cardiac arrest.
The CEO revealed that on informing the mother about the death of Travis she began wailing and disclosed that her husband had killed her son. She further added that the fork jembe was aimed at her.
The hospital has asked for further investigation because they believe that Travis mother was not honest.
