The teacher Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia has revealed plans to promote more than fifteen thousand teachers as from this month after completion of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.
The Teacher Service Commission CEO told the Members of Parliament today that the promotion of teachers had been on hold due to compressed school calendar.
Macharia said that as soon as the exams are over, the Commission shall advertise slots on different categories or grades and begin promotion process of teachers.
The available positions to be grabbed for promotions are 15,522. The commission will spend approximately 1.4 billion shillings on these promotions.
TSC CEO further clarified that the positions which are vacant are resulting from natural attrition.
The Members of Parliament had questioned why majority of teachers have been stagnating in the same job group for more than 10 years.
The committee chair Julius Melly asked how much the commission would require or use to promote teachers.
Melly Julius said there is an outcry that promotion of teachers is not fair as it is based on nepotism and other corruption matters. He added that this could be affecting most teachers who have been serving in the same position.
Macharia on the other hand responded by saying the promotions are always based on merit and subject to availability.

Wish to thanks paliamentary education committee chair Hon. Melly for unearthing the vices that had become the norms of tsc in transfers and promotions of especially diploma teachers. Wish to extend gratitude to the kk government for the best governance in place. God bless Kenya.
