A Mombasa bus ferrying passengers to Mombasa from Nairobi was on Saturday afternoon burnt to ashes in Voi, Taita-Taveta County.
Tahmeed Bus burst into flames along Nairobi- Mombasa Highway a few miles to Voi town from Nairobi. Luckily, in the incident that occurred around 4pm, no casualties were reported.
Voi Sub-County Police Commander Bernastein Shari said all the 42 passengers who were on board were evacuated safely from the bus. He said the bus was burnt to ashes. The cause of the incident is yet to be determined.
The fire incident was discovered by pedestrians who alerted the passengers on what was happening when the bus had stopped at Caltex area.
According to one of the passengers, Abdallah Salim, who was on board, they had stopped at the caltex area because one of them was a lighting. The people who were around then started shouting telling them that the bus was on fire. They quickly disembarked but unfortunately, they could not save anything.
Mr Abdallah Salim said the Tahmeed company made plans for the passengers to be carried to their various destinations.
