Police in Manga, Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County are investigating an incident where an irate mob burnt down four houses in Nyantutu and Mosocho villages following the death of a teacher.
Joseck Ondara allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well at Tinga market in what residents believe was as a result of being conned an unknown amount of money by a neighbour identified as Erick Omwenga who pretended to be in a position to sell him a piece of land.
Omwenga is the owner of the four homes that were attacked. Tombe Senior Chief Abel Oroti who was among the first to respond after the distress call says they have launched a probe on the allegations and also warned residents against taking actions into their own hands.
Police officers from Manga Police Station who quelled the rowdy mob have launched investigations into the incident and are expected to record statements from those who were at the scene.
The whereabouts of Omwenga remain unknown.
