Transfer Teachers to Their Home Counties. The Kenya National Union of Teachers branch secretary for West Pokot Mr. Martin Sembelo has asked the Teachers Service Commission to consider reversing delocalization of teachers with immediate effect.
Mr. Martin said more than 200 teachers from West Pokot County had been affected by the delocalization having been transferred to the neighboring counties like Uasin Gishu and Trans-Nzoia counties.
Pointing out that the National Assembly had given Teacher Service Commission up to the end of January to reverse the controversial transfers, West pokot branch secretary wondered why the teacher service commission had ignored the directive.
Mr. Martin Sembelo said that by November last year, more than fourteen thousand seven hundred teachers had applied to be transferred back home, questioning why the teacher service commission should take a very long time to implement a simple directive from the highest law-making organ in the country.
On the issue of junior secondary school teachers, Mr. Sembelo Martin urged the Teacher Service Commission to empathize with the newly employed teachers who were fkrced to move to far flung areas and sustain their needs in the new stations without monthly salary.
It is difficult for such teachers to deliver accordingly knowing that they can not sustain themselves without salary. The lack of salary causes stress to the teachers considering the hard economic times. The commission should therefore empathize with the teachers and give them their monthly wages.
He said lJunior Secondary School should be adequately staffed, disclosing that some of them had only one teacher. The one teacher is expected to teach the fourteen plus subjects. This is not practical.
The challenge of course books should also be addressed vividly to ensure smooth transition from the old curriculum.
