Students to Receive HELB Via Mpesa. The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and Safaricom have officially launched the HELB Mobile Wallet Payment Solution for all university and college students to access and utilize their HELB funds.
The launch took place during the 2023 HELB Universities Consultative Forum which was held in Naivasha.
The Mobile Wallet payment solution can now be accessed by students through the Safaricom M-PESA Mini App and through USSD code *624 #.
The solution empowers beneficiaries to apply for subsequent loans, access Higher Education Loans Board upkeep funds, withdraw funds, view loan status, access loan statements and repay loans from feature phones, Android and iPhone applications.
HELB Chief Executive Officer, Charles Ringera expects the solution to conveniently serve the annual target of over four hundred and twenty thousand students and growing as the agency continues to embrace government’s digital transformation agenda by leveraging transformation agenda on ICT for seamless service delivery and digitization of its services.
The Chief Executive Officer, Charles Ringera, said that HELB continuously seeks to create convenience and provide students with other options to access their services. With the launch of the mobile wallet payment solution, HELB aims at giving a simple digital customer journey for the management of student loan funds.
He encouraged students to embrace the initiative as it will provide them with an efficient solution for HELB Loan access and management.
The candidates of last year who are yet to join institutions of higher education, who will be lucky enough to get the HELB Loan will be expected to embrace the new changes.
Over one hundred and seventy three thousand students scored C+ and above in last years national exams.
Students to Receive HELB Via Mpesa beginning from this financial year once Safaricom completes all the necessary arrangements pertaining the Higher Education Loans Board mpesa wallet payment solution for students.
