Major policy directive to affect university entry. President William Ruto is on Friday expected to announce major policy directives in the education sector that will affect the entry to universities and colleges for the 2022 KCSE candidates.
The President will be receiving the much-awaited report of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has said that the report is now ready for handover to the Head of State this week.
Without giving the finer details of the report, Machogu said the report has captured all the views of stakeholders who made presentations before the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms team.
Machogu said a number of people complained that the curriculum is a bit too heavy adding that he knows that the compulsory subjects are 12 and he don’t know whether it is the right number or not.
Whether that number will be reduced or not the answer to that is coming on Friday when the President will make his pronouncement in conformity to what has been recommended by the working party.
He spoke at Jamhuri High School where he was the chief guest for the 7th graduation of the Kenya Education Management Institute.
The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms chaired by Professor Raphael Munavu was granted an extension of up to June 9 to present their recommendations.
The team is expected to engage in a national validation exercise upon the submission of the report on Friday.
At the same time, Machogu hinted at a new policy pronouncement on the funding of public universities. Major policy directive to affect university entry.
The working party has recommended that students in public universities pay tuition fees depending on the institution they attend.
The new model will come into effect once the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service place the 2022 candidates.
Students will be required to select universities based on the beforehand disclosure of the cost of their programmes by the universities they choose.
