PSC Approves Recruitment Of 3000 Tutors in These Areas
The State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training has a serious shortage of tutors approximated at five thousand, four hundred and seventeen currently. This was revealed to the parliamentary committee.
Esther Muhoria, Principal Secretary for State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training told the Committee on Education and Research that the Public Service Commission has approved the recruitment of 3000 tutors at a cost of one point nine nine two billion shillings in the next Financial Year.
However, from the budget proposal, the State Department was allocated seven hundred and twenty million leaving a balance of Sh1.27 billion.
The Principal Secretary appeared before the committee seeking for funding consideration of the financial year 2023/2024.
Muhoria said funding constraints under capitation, recruitment and promotion of trainers and lack of equipment in the newly completed institutions are key areas that require resources.
Muhoria said the State Department is currently negotiating with the People’s Republic of China and the Government of South Korea to get funding to equip the 70 Newly completed institutions.
Muhoria noted that 51,250 TVETTVET Higher Education Loans Board applicants have applied for funding, but there are no resources for them.
In her presentation, she said 15.2 billion shillings is needed for equipping completed institutions and 2.095 billion for financing technical training.
Muhoria listed seven stalled projects in Lamu Mpeketoni, Saku, Ngeria, Gichugu, Sigor, Rabai and Wajir North.
The projects stalled due to lack of adequate funding and security reasons. She further said the State Department has no pending bills or new projects.
State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training is mandated to undertake technical and vocational education policy development and management of institutes of science and technology and TVET institutions and management of national polytechnics.
