Good News To ECDE Teachers Following Latest News on Their Salary. The Senate Committee on Education Chairman Mr. Joe Nyutu has revealed that plans are on the way for basic pay for Early Childhood Development Education teachers employedemployed by county governments to be increased from the current pay of 7,500 to 15,000 Kenya shillings.
The chair strongly criticized the initial salary considering it an insult to professionals who have undergone formal training and acquired specialized skills.
Mr. Nyutu added that the Senate Committee on Education, together with other stakeholders, are working hard to find ways for the Teachers Service Commission to absorb Early Childhood Development Education teachers.
However, Mr. Nyutu noted that due to the devolution of Early Childhood Development Education, legal measures are required to resolve the current challenge.
To get the best outcome for these teachers, collaboration between the Senate, National Assembly and the Council of Governors is very essential, Mr. Nyutu said.
The chair also said that they are aiming to address the issue of delayed salaries as some of the teachers have worked for almost ten months without being paid and are owed.
The Senate Committee is currently in discussions with the Council of Governors to expedite the regularization of ECDE teachersteachers, making them permanent employees with pensionable status.
