Several students of Cheptenye Boys High School in Belgut, Kericho County risk spending the night in the cold after an inferno burnt down two dormitories early Tuesday morning.
Staff members who spoke to the media personnel on condition of anonymity said the fire started when the students were taking their breakfast.
The staff said the students were in their queues waiting to be served when they noticed a cloud of smoke billowing from the dormitories.
They rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue their belongings but the fire had already engulfed the entire building.
The students together with the members of staff and the community attempted to put out the fire but were overwhelmed due to the prevailing windy condition.
Students’ personal effects were completely destroyed and nothing was rescued or saved from the inferno.
A fire brigade from the county government of Kericho arrived at the school later and could not assist much in putting out the fire.
