A Form One student from Kuoyo Secondary School in Maseno, Kisumu West, was stabbed multiple times by unknown assailants while heading back home on Monday evening.
The student, whose name has not been released, was attacked by the assailants who then fled from the scene without stealing anything.
According to Stephen Odhiambo, a witnesses, the student was heading back home after attending evening preps at the school when she was attacked.
The assailants, who were armed with knives, stabbed her multiple times before fleeing from the scene.
The student was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
The police have launched investigations into the matter and are currently searching for the assailants.
The motive behind the attack is not yet clear.
The attack sent shockwaves through the school and the community.
Parents and guardians have expressed concern over the safety of their children and have called on the government to increase security measures in the area.
“The incident is a reminder of the need for increased security in schools and the surrounding areas,” Odhiambo said.
The community has called for increased police patrols in the area, installation of CCTV cameras, and provision of more security personnel to schools.
