COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli in a statement has said he supports president Ruto fully in the proposal to increase NSSF deductions from the current amount of 200 shillings. According to atwoli the figure of 200 is the lowest in East Africa and critically inadequate.
The figure is to be increased to six percent of the gross salary. Atwoli said this increase has been long overdue considering it is not just the lowest in East Africa but also has been in COTU’s view.
He said that COTU participated in the formation of the NSSF Act and it must champion and advocate for the expansion of social protection. Atwoli added that as a union they do not have any corruption case in court.
On other cases he said they had filed a case to bar implementation of NSSF act of 2013 but they withdrew the case after the two issues they had raised were resolved.
COTU said the 6 per cent increment is for the benefit of the workers.
COTU Secretary Francis Atwoli called on Kenyans to fully support the 6 per cent rate as it is within the law and also of great benefit to them upon retirement.
