Busia youths throw stones at DP’s convoy. It is unfortunate that in this era some youths are still being used by politicians to play dirty by disrupting political rallies.
Dr William Ruto, His Excellency the Deputy President, encountered resistance on Saturday in Busia county while on a two-day tour in the Western region. The rowdy youths blocked the road around korinda junction before lighting bonfires and throwing stones at his convoys.
It is reported that four vehicles were damaged during the incident. Of the four one belonged to citizen TV, another one belonged to Pamela Ongoma who is a UDA coordinator in Siaya county and the third belonged to Engineer Malomba Michael. The owner of the fourth vehicle that was damaged is not revealed.
Ruto held other rallies on Friday within the Western region (Kakamega county) but didn’t encounter any resistance. On Saturday he toured Busia county. He first addressed his supporters in the Butula area before proceeding to Bumula market.
He forced his way back to Busia after the third rally at Nambale. At Busia town, he addressed his supporters surrounded by tough security and tension.
The rowdy youths who had intentions to disrupt the meeting were rebuffed by the police. It is reported that the youths were armed with teargas and other weapons.
The Deputy President condemned the act of violence and urged the youths not to accept to be used wrongly by politicians. Instead, they should ask each presidential aspirant to sell their manifestos and give them an equal chance to compete fairly in succeeding the President. Kenya has moved from the barbaric politics of ethnicity and throwing of stones, he said.
He asked Busia residents to change their mindset and discard the politics of ethnicity and informed them that Busia will not remain an ODM zone forever and those who think we cannot enter Busia town should know that we are all Kenyans and that Busia is changing.
He further said that the main agenda of the UDA party is to empower vulnerable Kenyans as opposed to our competitors who still thrive in stone-throwing.
Soon after the DP finished his speech, people left in a huff in fear of being assaulted by rowdy youths.
Dp Ruto was accompanied by Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Dismus Barasa (Kimilili) and former Teso South MP Mary Emasse. Dp Ruto addressed other rallies at Adungosi and Likolis in Teso South and Malaba town.
